The hotel is inspired in name and elegance by the owner of one of southern Spain’s most illustrious surnames. A great lady of Marbella, Alicia Padierna de Villapadierna Klein was the daughter of the Count of Villapadierna – a name with origins in the Early Middle Ages, an Asturian lineage that participated in the Reconquista, the name of the knights of Santiago and lords of the castle of Villapadierna in Tierra de Campos. Her mother was Alicia Klein, the daughter of an important financier with connections to Alsatian bankers and golf pioneers who won the Spanish championship held in Guadalmina in 1968.
The marriage of Alicia Padierna of Villapadierna Klein to hotel owner Ricardo Arranz marked the beginning of a shared vision: the creation of a refuge where luxury would merge with history. Alicia was Ricardo’s muse. Her elegance and ideas transformed a dream into reality and the resulting hotel is a tribute to his passion and commitment to her.

In the 1990s, Ricardo acquired an undeveloped property in Benahavís with the idea of building a one-of-a-kind golf resort for the luxury connoisseurs of the Costa del Sol, along with high-end residential villas and apartments.
Ricardo’s visionary objective took shape with the support of Eddie Gilbert – the architect of the complex, who worked for a time with Marbella’s great decorator, Jaime Parladé, giving life to what is today Anantara Villa Padierna. The result of their shared genius would return elegance, sophistication and taste to Marbella.
The reality of Villa Padierna today is the result of many influences and interventions, including the mark of Mexican architect Marcos Sainz, who trained with Noldi Schreck (the pair would go on to design Puerto Banús), and who has since worked on numerous projects for Anantara.
