For 25 years, Anantara has immersed guests in some of the world’s most extraordinary destinations, in each, bringing its unique culture and stories to life. Now, in Hungary, we invite guests to explore an ancient artform.
Approximately two hours from Budapest, in the village of Tard, the Matyó have passed down a unique form of embroidery from generation to generation. Visiting a family-run workshop, you will learn how patterns are composed, coloured and personalised, then try your hand at your own creation.
A stop at the village church is followed by a homemade lunch of gulyás, accompanied by traditional singing once reserved for Matyó celebrations and festivals.
