The Green Growth 2050 Global Standard is based on a range of internationally recognised environmental and hotel industry sustainability standards, including:

  • Code Against the Sexual Exploitation of Children
  • UNWTO Ethics in Tourism
  • International Labour Organisation standards
  • Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria for Hotels and Tour Operators

The main areas of certification are:

  • Sustainability Management (implementation and policy framework, compliance to international conventions)
  • Legal Compliance (licensing and legislation, land use)
  • Labour Practices (employee protection, employee training, equitable hiring)
  • Health & Safety (disaster management and emergency response)
  • Human Rights (respecting local populations, awareness of exploitation, basic services, local livelihoods)
  • Sustainable Design & Construction of Buildings & Infrastructure (planning and design, equitable access)
  • Sustainable Operations - Best Practice (purchasing policy, customer satisfaction, accuracy of promotional materials, experiential to interpretive tourism, communications strategy, food & beverage, green meetings)
