The UAE is historically known for its attachment to camels which are of social and economic value in the region. 

We have 23 camels, all coming from different “walks of life” and the best of all are born at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.

In Ezba, we have two types of Falcons;
Saker falcon and Peregrine falcon

Gazelles are known as swift animals, some are able to run at bursts as high as 70 kmph or run at a sustained speed of 50 kmph. Gazelles are found mostly in the desert, grasslands and savannahs.

At Ezba, we have two types of gazelles: mountain gazelle and sand gazelle.

Arabian horse is valued for its speed, stamina, beauty, intelligence and gentleness. Arabian horses are small in stature compared to many riding horses, standing between 14 hands (56inches) and 16 hands (64 inches) on average.

They flee from the sun so spend the day under rocks or in the sand. They are not venomous, but they use digestive fluids to liquefy their prey’s flesh, making it easy to suck the remains into their stomach. They eat bugs, lizards, small birds and rodents. They are fast runners and adapted to desert living.

Opportunistic hunter from eggs, insects to reptiles. It is the smallest in the Fox family. Its paws have more fur on them compared to other Foxes to aid in digging and movement on the sand. Ears are large when compared to the size of the body for expelling heat.

Found in the UAE and across Arabia. They create burrows and stay under the ground most of the day. Have long tails for extra balance and to conceal its tracks. Its large eyes and inner ear help to keep track of predators.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is home to a variety of nocturnal animals, which are adapted to the harsh desert environment. These animals have evolved to be active at night to avoid the scorching heat of the day and to conserve water. Nocturnal animals in the UAE have adapted to survive in a range of habitats, from sand dunes to mountains. They use different strategies to cope with the challenging desert environment, such as burrowing underground or hunting under the cover of darkness. Despite the challenges of the desert, these nocturnal animals play an important role in the ecosystem and help maintain a balance in the UAE’s delicate desert environment.

25 Types in the UAE desert. Black Fat-tailed Scorpion (Androctonus crassicauda) or the deathstalker which is yellow in colour (Leiurus Quiquetriatus) are amongst the most famous. Fun Facts - They are able to go months without consuming food. They capture their prey and crush them using their pincers. Their stingers are used to inject venom into their prey which paralyses them, causing immobility.

Arabian Salukis are one of the oldest breeds of domesticated dogs in the world and are well-known for their excellent speed, intelligence, stamina and loyalty to their handlers. The two types of Salukis are smooth hounds called Al Hess and feathered ones called Al Reesh. In Ezba, we have both breeds of Salukis.

Emirati women are an integral part of the cultural heritage of UAE and have traditionally played a significant role in preserving and passing down the cultural traditions through practices such as weaving and embroidery. These crafts have a long history in Emirati culture and are considered important forms of traditional art, with women learning and practicing these skills from generation to generation.

Pottery is an important part of Emirati culture and has been practiced for centuries. Emirati potters create a wide variety of vessels, from simple cooking pots to intricately decorated ceremonial pieces. Traditional techniques involve hand-building and decorating with patterns and motifs that reflect Emirati identity and heritage, such as geometric designs and images of local flora and fauna.

A rich cultural heritage that encompasses a diverse array of traditions and customs. From the practice of traditional arts such as weaving and pottery, to the enjoyment of local delicacies such as Gahwa and dates, to the use of fragrances such as Oud, Emirati culture is characterized by a deep respect for tradition, hospitality, and a strong connection to the land and its resources.

These traditions have been passed down through generations and continue to play an important role in shaping the country’s identity and way of life.

Oud music is an important part of Emirati culture and has been practiced for centuries. The oud, a stringed instrument similar to a lute, is the centerpiece of this musical tradition, which is characterized by intricate melodies and rhythms that reflect the country’s cultural heritage. Whether performed as a solo instrument or as part of a larger ensemble, oud music is an expression of the deep connection between Emiratis and their cultural identity.

Majlis, a cherished institution in Emirati culture, represents a space of community, hospitality and cultural exchange. A place where individuals gather to engage in meaningful conversations and celebrate the richness of Emirati traditions.

The Bedouin people have a long history of nomadic herding and agriculture using trade routes, venturing from the desert to the coastal regions. They are relying on camels, dogs and falcons for survival. They were skilled at finding and utilizing water sources by building wells in the desert, ensuring their well-being in harsh conditions.

Falaj, an ancient irrigation system, represents the ingenuity and sustainable water management practices of Arabian cultures. The falaj system enabled the flourishing of agriculture and fostering communities in arid regions.

The Ezba plantation is a lush green area located between the sand dunes. Here in Ezba, we have a selection of desert plants around, such as date trees, Ghaf trees or the Tribulus Omanense (national flower of the United Arab Emirates).

Oasis, like shimmering mirages amidst the arid desert landscape, are lush and verdant pockets of life. Desert oases provide a precious refuge of water, shade and sustenance.

Our greenhouse is home to a collection of vegetation, including tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplants and a host of herbs such as basil leaves, mint and more. With over 150kg produced every month, our organic produce is used across the resort and our signature dishes. Talk to our team to visit our greenhouse and experience it yourself.

The resort has also moved towards removing all plastic-based disposable packaging from use across different divisions. The following products have already been executed: straws, coffee cups, soup cups, cutlery set, takeaway containers, casava bags, saucers and cling film.

The resort reduces energy consumption by at least 10% annually, complying with our group requirements. The resort has invested in energy-saving technology; like installation of Building Management Systems (BMS), for intelligent lighting and energy control, to reduce excessive and unnecessary use of electricity and buying and placing energy-efficient lighting around the resort, turning off all unnecessary lights, as well as computers and other electronic appliances when not being used, and using air conditioners mindfully through Chiller Management System (CMS). Timings of the lightings are adjusted as per the seasonal changes.

The resort combats pollution by cooperating with a local waste management contractor by reducing, reusing, and recycling the solid waste that impacts landfills. In support of our new waste management direction, we have a compactor to reduce the volume of landfills; we also supply our landscaping waste through the contractor to the local farm for reuse and also we have a policy in place to purchase products that are durable, repairable and able to be recycled in order to achieve a reduction in the landfill by 20% annually.

The resort reduces water consumption by applying best practices for plant irrigation and outdoor landscape design, including an on-site sewage treatment plant to recycle the water for non-potable reuse for irrigation. As a result, more than 60% of water for irrigation is recycled water. In addition the resort minimises water consumption by more than 3% annually, adhering with Anantara Group requirements in all areas of the resort through the combined efforts of guests and team members by implementing several initiatives like the Green Bed program in which reusing options are offered for linens, bathrobes and towels, as well as low flow toilets lessens the amount of wasted water.
