Thailand extends free insurance coverage for foreign tourists
Feel safe and blissfully at ease, as Thailand has officially announced the extension to its free insurance program for international visitors until 31 December 2024. This campaign helps to assist international visitors during any emergencies such as accidents, crimes, and natural disasters within Thailand.
The campaign, led by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, provides cash compensation to foreign visitors in the extreme case of medical emergencies and deaths. Under the terms of the programme, medical expenses from accidents can be compensated up to a maximum of THB 500,000. In the rare and unfortunate case of death, the policy will grant a one-million-baht compensation to the foreign tourist or their family. However, the programme does not apply if visitors can claim insurance from their travel providers – or in the case where the hotel, attraction, or tourism operator provides separate insurance coverage.
