The Anantara experience, founded in 2001, has spread across the globe, redefining purposeful travel for generations of holidaymakers. In Anantara’s home base, Thailand, our approach to purposeful travel focuses on preserving natural resources, celebrating local culture and supporting our host communities, helping guests enjoy a more meaningful stay.

Koh Samui, renowned for its beaches and lush landscapes, faces environmental challenges associated with tourism and development. At Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, we seek to play our part through practical initiatives that support responsible resource management, care for our natural surroundings and contribute to the local community.

Green at Heart

The resort's landscape, designed by world-famous landscape architect Bill Bensley, harmoniously integrates nature and art. Peeking through the foliage are monkey statues that pay homage to the site's history as a coconut plantation where primates helped humans pluck coconuts from the tallest trees. Keeping our gardens lush and healthy requires considerable water and care. To support our landscaping efforts, we produce natural fertiliser on site, including compost made using our mulch machine. We also use a greywater filtration system to treat and reuse water for landscaping.

Nothing Wasted Nothing Lost

Tended by our green-thumbed kitchen team, the chef’s garden flourishes with a variety of herbs and vegetables, supplying our kitchens with fresh produce. Food waste is donated to local farmers for use as pig feed, while other waste is separated for recycling where appropriate. To support responsible waste disposal, recycling bins are placed throughout the resort, and guests embarking on excursions are provided with trash bags to bring waste back to the resort for proper disposal.

Dollars for Deeds

Through Anantara's signature 'Dollars for Deeds' programme, guests can opt to donate one dollar per night of their stay, with Minor Hotels matching each contribution. In Thailand, funds raised through ‘Dollars for Deeds’ support initiatives such as The Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, The Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and The Princess Sirindhorn Craniofacial Center at Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Managing Energy Responsibly

We have installed solar panels to generate renewable energy at the resort. The centralised heat pumps also help us manage energy consumption across the resort.

Community Engagement

Keeping Samui’s beaches clean is a team effort. Our weekly beach clean-ups bring together team members and resort guests who collect plastic waste brought in by the tide. Every quarter, we join the Samui Crab Bank team to release endangered crabs raised in the nursery into the ocean, while also allocating a quarterly allowance to support these efforts.

On dry land, our efforts range from English tutoring and waste management classes for students at Bophut School to blood donation and food drives throughout the year, including a special day dedicated for CSR activities on Minor Founder’s Day celebrated in June.
