Anantara’s 25th-anniversary People Who Inspire series continues, celebrating the people who bring the brand’s spirit to life.
As the brand marks 25 years of meaningful travel, we are turning the spotlight to the people who have shaped its story. The new ‘People Who Inspire’ series celebrates the artisans, conservationists, spiritual guides and long-serving hosts whose passion brings each destination to life, reminding travellers that the true essence of luxury lies in human connection.
Next in the series is Likong Huy "Yuki", Temple Exploration Insider at Anantara Angkor Resort, where history is not merely observed but felt. Raised in the shadow of Angkor Wat, Yuki's connection to the temples runs deep, shaped by childhood mornings watching sunrise wash gold over its towers. For her, guiding travellers through this landscape is a way of honouring Cambodia's enduring spirit, one story, one journey at a time
You have a deep knowledge of Angkor Wat’s history. What is it about meeting people from all over the world that made you choose this role instead of a different career in history or research? Why do you feel that hospitality is the most powerful way to help visitors understand and respect the stories of Angkor Wat?
I chose this role because I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing Cambodia’s history in a way that is personal and memorable. Hospitality allows me to turn the stories of Angkor Wat into experiences guests can feel, not just facts they read in a book.
The temples of Angkor are considered the heart of Cambodia. What is your own earliest or most powerful personal memory of the antient complex, and how does that memory shape the way you introduce the temples to guests?
My earliest memory is visiting Angkor Wat as a child and feeling a deep sense of wonder at the stories carved in stone. That awe inspires me to help guests experience the temples with curiosity and respect.
Anantara believes every property tells a distinct local story. If the temples of Angkor could speak, what is the one ‘secret’ story you think they would want every traveller to hear?
They would tell us that Angkor was built not only with stone, but with belief, care, and a deep connection to nature.
Can you tell us about a specific time you felt a guest truly connected with the soul of Cambodia because of an insight or moment you shared together?
A guest once stayed silently at sunrise, moved by the carvings’ stories. Later, she told me she felt she truly understood Cambodia’s soul. Seeing that connection is the most rewarding part of my role.
True luxury is often described as feeling seen and understood. How do you use your intuition to tailor an exploration for someone who may be visiting these temples for the first time?
I observe the guests carefully. Some like history, some like photos, some like quiet moments. I change my guiding style to match their interests.
When a guest eventually leaves Anantara Angkor, what is the one specific emotion or thought you hope they carry home with them regarding the Cambodian people?
I hope guests leave with a sense of warmth and respect for the Cambodian people — understanding that behind the temples are generations of resilience, kindness, and quiet strength. I want them to remember Cambodia not only as a destination, but as a place of genuine human connection.
In a place as famous and busy as Angkor Wat, where is your favourite ‘hidden corner’ to help guests find a moment of true silence and reconnection?
I love the quieter areas away from the main paths, especially near smaller libraries or shaded galleries where the crowds fade away. In these hidden corners, guests can hear the wind, the birds, and their own thoughts. It is there that Angkor feels most personal.
How do you help travellers ‘slow down and breathe deeply’ while they are surrounded by such immense and overwhelming history?
I encourage guests to stop, observe details, breathe, and feel the stories of the stones. Small reflective moments make the history tangible and calming.
How do your guided explorations help guests understand the importance of protecting this world-heritage site for the next generations?
I explain why certain areas are protected and how their respect helps preserve Angkor for future generations. Understanding its value inspires care.
How does your role help ensure that the local community and the ancient traditions of Angkor remain a living, breathing part of the guest experience?
I introduce guests to local crafts, traditions, and ceremonies. This ensures that the community continues to live its culture, not just perform for visitors.
As we look forward to the next 25 years of Anantara, how do you hope the way people experience the iconic temples of Angkor will evolve?
I hope visitors will engage more deeply with the culture and environment, discovering Angkor beyond the tourist paths, while helping preserve it.
What does it mean to you personally to be one of the ‘25 Faces of Anantara’ representing the brand’s global legacy of discovery?
It is an honor to represent Anantara’s legacy. Being part of the ‘25 Faces’ allows me to share Cambodia with the world while inspiring meaningful travel experiences.
