ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Sri Lanka is one of the oldest traditional agriculture civilisations in Asia, with rice cultivation being the primary production activity. More than just a dietary staple, rice is a labour of love that plays an integral role in Sri Lanka’s celebrations, rituals and religious practices. Recognising the importance of rice and the social unity it represents, 750 sqm of resort land has been cleared for paddy fields. Traditional planting and harvesting methods are adhered to without any use of chemicals. Every harvest yield thrice annually is donated to the local community and also used for our farm-to-plate dining experiences.

Our sustainable resources

Proudly plastic straw-free, we began cultivating bamboo and papaya trees to create a sustainable resource for natural, biodegradable straws. Indigenous vegetables, spices, tea bushes and fruit trees have been planted in our organic garden for use in our Spice Spoons cooking classes and Harvest Table by Anantara dining experiences. In support of the community and local cottage industries nearby, our daily catch is brought by a local fisherman who visits our shoreline, while seasonal produce and local delicacies are consciously sourced from within a 10 km radius to minimise our carbon footprint where possible. We are progressively moving toward zero waste to landfills, with continuous sustainable commitments and by evolving our landscape further for even more enriching guest experiences.
