Immersive adventures
In times of stress, few things are more soothing than the gentle lap of the ocean or as liberating as adventures on the waves. Until it’s time to embark on your next journey, we’ve selected some of our favourite water-inspired experiences to be found at Anantara destinations around the world. We know you may not be able to travel now, but we hope these will keep you inspired until you can.
Uluwatu Surfing – Bali
What: If you travel to the far-south coast of Bali, you’ll find Impossible Beach nestled amid rocky outcrops and hidden coves. Set apart from the more popular, crowded beaches on the island, Impossible Beach has captured the attention of surfers with the quality and consistency of its now-famous reef break. This is not only the best surfing spot in Bali, it is one of the best in the world. Anantara’s Uluwatu Surfing offers you an unforgettable opportunity to experience the pure exhilaration of this reef break for yourself.
Where: Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort unfolds on a dramatic cliffside overlooking Impossible Beach. Terraced architecture ensures ocean views from every angle. Dine, swim and chill against sunset panoramas.
Hoi An River Cruise – Vietnam
What: The heritage town of Hoi An is famed for its perfectly preserved architecture, winding alleys, glowing lanterns and charming shophouses. An absolute must-see on any visit to Central Vietnam, this UNESCO-listed Heritage Site brings together centuries of rich history and a captivating array of cultures. While wandering its narrow streets is an absolute must, a cruise on the Thu Bon River opens up a whole other perspective on this fascinating town. Follow the river to the nearby coastline and immerse yourself in the customs and culture of the locale.
Where: Situated on the banks of the Thu Bon, Anantara Hoi An Resort is the perfect base for river cruises, exploring the town and excursions to sandy beaches, tranquil islands, nearby Danang, and more.
Chamarel Waterfall – Mauritius
What: Located in the southwest of Mauritius, Chamarel beckons with scenic locations and natural wonders. Among them are the Chamarel Falls, Seven Colored Earth, and the Black River Gorges National Park. Overhanging the ledge of a basalt cliff, the Chamarel Waterfall splashes into an oval pool before flowing down a 6 kilometre tropical forest-fringed canyon to Baie du Cap. Nearby are the coloured dunes of Chamarel, undulating in contrasting layers of blue, green, red and yellow. The colours evolved over centuries through conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals.
Where: Located in the unspoiled southeast shore of the island, Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas is a wonderful base for all kinds of water-based adventures. Kayak across crystal-clear waters. Set sail in search of dolphins. Relax beachfront with a rum in hand or retreat to the hammam.
Adventures by Longtail – Dubai
What: See Dubai’s soaring skyline from a whole new perspective with a trip around the iconic Palm Jumeirah on a Thai longtail boat. Step aboard the 'Ruea Hang Yao' and embark on a fun-filled adventure on the sparkling waters of Dubai. Take in the city’s most iconic sites and sit back and relax as our guide takes care of everything.
Where: Located on the world-famous Palm Jumeirah just off the coast of Dubai, Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort boasts 400 metres of private shoreline surrounded by views of the Arabian Gulf. Unwind with hammam rituals and enjoy the Thai-style luxury for which Anantara is known.
Nurse Shark Snorkelling – Maldives
What: The Maldives is a wonderland of water-based adventures. With abundant marine life, colourful reefs and clean, clear waters, the atolls of the Maldives offer encounters with marine life like nowhere else on earth. While some activities, such as diving with manta rays, are seasonal, there are many breath-taking experiences that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Take snorkelling with nurse sharks. These gentle denizens of the reefs can be seen year-around near Ari Atoll. They also come close to the surface, so no diving certification or equipment is required.
Where: Family adventures await at sea and below the water’s surface at Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort. Run into the surf from your beach pool villa, or jump into the lagoon from your overwater suite. Surf, dive, picnic on a deserted island, then return to spa treatments and culinary journeys at water’s edge.
