Anantara hosts Colors of the North: Portraits of the Golden Triangle
21 Sep 2010
Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa is proud to host a remarkable new photo exhibition, Colors of the North: Portraits of the Golden Triangle, by American researcher and musician Victoria Vorreiter. The exhibition, which runs from October 22nd through January 22nd, 2011, vividly highlights the extraordinary multiplicity of traditional people that have migrated over thousands of years to Southeast Asia.
Victoria has captured an astonishing spectrum of traditional songs and rites, through photography, musical recordings, and video rarely seen or heard by trekking to remote mountain villages in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and China for the past five years.
Anantara, in the center of the Golden Triangle, is surrounded by the forests and mountains that harbor a rich diversity of tribal people. Numbering over one hundred thirty groups and subgroups, each tribe represents an extraordinary and unique world, distinctive in language, customs, arts, spiritual beliefs, dress, and features.
This exhibition will showcase the value of these disappearing cultures, the importance of preserving their time-honored tradition, and the variety that makes up this dispora in the Golden Triangle.
“Indigenous peoples in the inaccessible hills of the Golden Triangle have depended for millennia on oral tradition to transmit knowledge, history, and beliefs,” explains Ms. Victoria Vorreiter. “How long these customs can continue, is in doubt. The aim of my work is to help preserve the majesty of these tribal rituals before they disappear.”
Anantara Golden Triangle Resort and Spa, draws its strength from the rich cultural traditions, historic heritage and natural beauty of the destination. The resort is idyllically set in nature and embraces a mission of respecting traditional culture in every project it supports.
A curator walk-through’s will be held by Victoria during the exhibition, for additional information including the dates and times of the tours please contact the Anantara Golden Triangle Resort, 229 Moo 1, Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai 57150, Thailand.
