Anantara Announces Winner of “Desert Islands Digital Memories”
09 Mar 2010
Following a six week competition, Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara has announced Kabeer Babu from Umm Al Quwain as the lucky winner of the Desert Islands Digital Memories photography course.
The winning photo, which was selected from over 250 entries, is a moody landscape with an elephant moving through it.
Chosen by photography course host Ira Block*, a contract photographer for National Geographic Magazine and National Geographic Books division with over 30 years experience in landscape, wildlife and travel photography, the picture was chosen for "it's quiet and engaging composition and tonal quality. The use of reflections in the water also added to it's visual impact. It was a difficult to pick one winner, as there were many great images to choose from, but this photograph captured my attention on many levels."
Kabeer will join participants on an exclusive three night, two day landscape and wildlife photography course from 18 to 21 March 2010 at Desert Islands Resort & Spa, located on Sir Bani Yas Island.
The mornings will be spent out "on location" shooting landscape and wildlife pictures. Whilst the afternoons will be dedicated critiquing work and going on additional shoots involving everything from the sands and ocean vistas, to the rare Oryx that call the island home. The course will provide a rare opportunity to learn from an expert how to capture the natural beauty and striking wildlife of the resort destination on camera.
Commenting on the winning shot Ira said, "I see great potential in Kabeer's photography skills and I feel he would benefit greatly from the Desert Islands Digital Memories experience. During the course we will explore the basics of photography and learn the skills required to capture powerful scenery and breathtaking wildlife moments in one of the region's most unique locations."
Sir Bani Yas Island, the Royal Nature Reserve established by the late ruler and founder of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is a haven of rich wildlife and picturesque landscapes providing the ultimate back drop to perfect the photographic eye.
"I am delighted my picture was chosen as the best of all the entries and that I can attend the photography workshop at Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara. I have always been interested in photography especially landscape and wildlife and I can't wait to learn more from an expert! said Kabeer.
